Many people, who want an exotic pet, think about adopting a lemur. However, since lemurs are endangered animals, it will be illegal. Also, the US has very strict laws governing the import of animals from foreign countries. This is primarily to restrict the diseases and epidemics that are not native to the US.
However, you can purchase lemurs from pet shops that breed lemurs in captivity. Make sure when selecting a lemur, you choose a male one. The males are not domineering like females and can be easily trained compared to a female.
There are many different species of lemurs. The smallest of them is the pygmy mouse lemur, while the largest is indri lemur weighing a massive fifteen pounds. However, the lemurs that most often make it as pets are mouse lemurs and ring tailed lemurs. The mouse lemur is between 4.7 inches and 5.7 inches in length.
Pets As Therapy
When my husband was diagnosed with MS some 13 years ago, it was a shock, from which in some ways, we are still to recover. The problems that sprang immediately to mind were how his mobility would be affected, could we cope financially and would it affect our animals. Ferrets As Pets
Ferrets can be great fun as pets but as all other animals they need attention. It’s like having a kitten that never grows up. Presidential Pets
At the Presidential Pet Museum, you can learn about what current and former Presidents had for pets. In reviewing the list, most of them are/were pet lovers and some had several pets. The list is to long to mention every one but here are some of the more recent. Keeping Exotic Fish As Pets
Few things rival the majestic beauty of what Jacques Cousteau famously termed “The Silent World:” the mysterious world underneath the surface of the waves. Fish have a graceful poetry to their movements, and there is a certain pageantry to the Clownfish, the Angelfish, and the puffer. Many people find a tank full of swimming exotic fish to be a soothing, erudite addition to the house, and the collecting of such fish can be a great hobby. It has soft fur, long tail, long hind legs, large saucer-like eyes and has a strip of black fur running down its back.
On the other hand, the ring tailed lemur is large in size, but has shorter front legs compared to its hind legs. This is the reason why the lemur walks its bottom high in the air. The ring tailed lemur can weigh anywhere from 5 pounds to 8 pounds and can grow to a length of 15 inches to 18 inches.
It is quite possible to tame a lemur, but as it ages, it can turn a little aggressive. Make sure you get your pet spayed while it is young. This will prevent the lemur from getting aggressive.
This said, it is always good for a wild animal to live in its natural habitat. Therefore, it may not be the best of ideas for you to cage and tame it. This is especially true for the lemur as it is an endangered animal and we should do everything in our power to ensure that this animal is not hunted or captured to satisfy a few people around the world.
